Business of Fashion (BoF): When Biology Becomes Technology
Voices is The Business of Fashion’s (BoF)annual multi-sector gathering exploring disruptive ideas for the fashion industry. This year, Faber Futures founder Natsai Chieza will join other exciting speakers, including designer Stella McCartney, whistleblower Christopher Wiley and founder of Gal Dem collective Liv Little, to share her perspective of emerging intersections between technology, culture and fashion.
The conference is curated around key thematics, and in addition to that, more intimate salon-style conversations :
Session 1: The Wider World; Session 2: Inside the Fashion System; Session 3: Technology and Innovation; Session 4: New Consumer Markets; Session 5: Live Your Best Life.
The salons are hosted by industry leaders and experts, exploring subjects as diverse as the future of AI in fashion, inclusivity, sustainability and workers rights.
At Faber Futures, we are developing design-driven protocols with pigment-producing microorganisms that provide both technical and aesthetic solutions for textile production, while reducing water use and eliminating toxic finishing chemicals. We believe that an approach that integrates design thinking at the start of the innovation process promotes a holistic path towards circular biodesign in fashion. Natsai’s talk will share how R&D at Faber Futures is informing a bottom-up innovation process that fundamentally challenges the present systemic failures of a heavily polluting, resource extractive, and inherently wasteful fashion industry. Natsai’s talk will be live-streamed (for Business of Fashion professional members only) during Day 1 Session 3: Technology and Innovation.
Natsai’s talk is now available to view here.
