Heimtextil 2020

By Magdalena Obmalko

We kicked off 2020 by joining a cohort of designers showcasing material innovations at the Franklin Till’s curated Future Material Library at this year’s Heimtextil. The Future Materials Library showcased a raft of disruptive designers and innovators who are proving alternative systems of production and consumption are not only possible, but essential. We shared material samples and processes behind Project Coelicolor, including a 5m silk textile overdyed with two different species of bacteria. The biggest international trade fair for textiles of its kind, Heimtextil took place in Frankfurt am Main from 7th to 10th January. Each project shown encourages us to think more about where our materials come from, what we do with them, and where they go at the end of their life-cycle.
